| Completing the Circle of Life |
By Jeff Crone This past weekend me and some of my family traveled down to Ho Chunk to participate in an annual feast for my brother (in the Ho Chunk way), Arnold Decorah. It was just one short year ago he passed on to the spirit world and it was so close to my brother Franko’s passing that, at that time, we all mourned again for him as well as for Arnold. For all of creation death completes the circle of life. It is the final chapter and not one of us knows when our time might come, only God does. None of us is guaranteed tomorrow. For the most part none of us likes to discuss the subject of death, in fact life is so short and goes by so fast it’s easy to overlook some very important things, like spending time building or re-building relationships with loved ones. Put it off and wait too long and it may not happen as we hope it to, or perhaps not at all. In the very same way we can easily overlook the relationship we all should have with our Creator. If that’s put off for too long it could be tragic. The very one who gives us life in the first place should have a rightful place in our life.

Think about this for a moment. What if you had a son or a daughter and you loved that child with all of your heart, all of your soul and with all of your strength. Wouldn’t you want that child to love you back in the same way? What if that child decided (s)he wanted nothing to do with you. And so (s)he decided not to acknowledge you or talk to you, essentially to ignore you, that not only would be disappointing but it would be hurtful, rightful anger might even set in. God feels that way about us but he loves us so much that he gives us the free will to accept and believe in Him or to go our own way and choose not believe in Him. We are not created to be robots. The tragedy in that is when you choose to not believe He exists, there becomes a natural void or emptiness in your life. But that emptiness will not remain empty, eventually it becomes filled with other things as you search and search for a substitute to replace God. The bottom line is nothing can fill that void that was all along originally created exclusively for His place in your life. When facing that final stage in life many realize this and may have some time to make amends. I’ve heard it said, “no one on their death bed ever looked back and thought, “gee I wish I would’ve worked more.” Most think about relationships with loved ones, family and the lost time they never took to spent with them. Today I’m the first to admit that spending time with family and with God is something I haven’t been doing enough of lately. We have one life to live while here and only so much time allotted to each of us, after that it’s on to eternity. The other side is what we respectfully term the “spirit world” and it’s ambiguous. We won’t know what it’s like there until were there. And once there we cannot go back and change how we lived here, we have today and today only to do that. This week I hope you will consider my words and decide to spend a great summer with your loved ones and most importantly include your Creator in it. He desires your fellowship and acknowledgement just as much as you desire your loved ones. Appreciate, expectantly hope and give thanks to Him as He continues to allow you to live and participate in this circle of life. Day by day here on mother earth we all should acknowledge Him and even speak to Him by faith in prayer. It’s the least we could do in light of all He has done for us, for our time here and for the time we have to look forward to in the spirit world to come.
