| GLIFWC Warden saves life of tribal office employee |
A Great Lakes Fish & Wildlife Commission Warden, Jessica Gokee, was in the right spot at the right time on Tuesday morning when she saved the life of Myron Thomas, an employee of the Lac Courte Oreilles Tribal Office. Thomas, as the maintenance man, was helping Brooke Dennis lift a large heavy aluminum grill that she had just purchased on behalf of the tribe for an upcoming event. They were lifting the grill off of the back of a truck when, according to his cousin Delores DeNasha, he felt lightheaded and passed out suffering a heart attack. DeNasha works in the Enrollment Office at the building and she heard Dennis running down the hall from the back entrance where they were unloading yelling for help. Also on that end of the building is the LCO Police Department. First, a police investigator got to Thomas and then Gokee. They both performed CPR with Gokee doing mouth to mouth resuscitation. Denasha said that health center employees Tweed Shuman and two doctors came over and helped to stabilize him while they waited over a half an hour for an ambulance that she said may have been on another call. Myron is now in Eau Claire and doing well.
